At the end of August, the UCI Para-cycling World Championships will be held in Ronse – an event that pushes the boundaries of sport and celebrates the power of perseverance. In the run-up to this special World Championship, we made six video portraits of six inspiring cyclists with disabilities. UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships (28-31/08/2025) officially presented in Ronse
Ronse, 30 April 2025 – From Thursday 28th to Sunday 31st of August 2025, the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships will be held in Ronse, Belgium. On Wednesday 30th of April, the event was officially presented to the press and partners at TIO3 in Ronse. This will be the first time that the UCI World championships for this Paralympic sport will be held in Belgium. ‘We want to organise a fantastic UCI World Championships, both in terms of the race and also the extra-sportive activities. This should increase the appeal of para-cycling and create a positive social impact for people with disabilities.'

UCI Para-cycling World Cup Ostend - Bruges
The UCI Para-cycling World Cup will take place in Bruges and Ostend from 1 to 4 May. The time trials will be held in Ostend on 1 and 2 May, and the peloton will move to Bruges for the road races on 3 and 4 May.

First activations during Gent-Wevelgem and the Tour of Flanders
For the very first time, cycling fans and sympathisers were able to get to know the Para-cycling World Championships. At our activation stand during Gent-Wevelgem, enthusiastic cycling supporters discovered what it is like to handcycle and had the chance to win great prizes. During the Tour of Flanders we set up a tifo in Malanderpark in Ronse.

Paralympians conquer Cape Epic: ‘Our disability overcome again’
Cycling enthusiasts could not ignore it: the annual Cape Epic took place from 16 to 23 March. South Africa was then the attraction for top international cyclists from various cycling disciplines choosing to duo-race on mountain bikes. In 2025, it was no different. Mountain biker Nino Schurter and former road cyclist Greg Van Avermaet, both 2016 Olympic champions, for instance, were at the start, each forming his own team. At their side were two top international disabled riders from Belgium: Ewoud Vromant & Louis Clincke. ‘Together, we overcame our disability again,’ said Clincke.

The city and its surroundings have a rich cycling history, with passages in many a cycling classic and previous World Championships and Belgian championships organisers. Among the cities worldwide that once organised regular World championships of cycling, Stad Ronse is now the first to consciously choose to organise the Para-cycling World Championships.
